Spend time with your children and help them learn and grow. Forest View offers many opportunities for your entire family to participate and build community.
Room Parent
The room parent helps in the classroom by coordinating parties and classroom
activities with the teacher. It’s a great way to get to know your child’s
teacher and friends and observe classroom learning. You can also co-parent
with another volunteer. Contact your child’s teacher at the beginning of
the year.
Fall Festival
Fall Festival is a blast! The school’s classrooms are transformed into a
carnival midway where the children can win prizes, buy great snacks, and
even win a cake in the cake walk. Putting on an event like this requires
volunteers to set up and tear down as well as run the games. So come volunteer
for an hour and then enjoy the festival. Fall Festival is the school’s
premier fund-raising event, so support your school and have a great time
with your family. Look for sign up sheets in your child's folder.
Work the concession stand at a Duke football or basketball game
Volunteer to work at the Forest View PTA concession stand at all home Duke
Football and Duke Men's Basketball Games to raise money for the school
and have a great time! Contact David Van Wagener for more information.
We need 20 volunteers for each football game and 10 volunteers for each
basketball game.

Landscape Workday
Forest View has a unique program of outdoor learning, where your child can
grow plants, hatch and study butterflies, and discover the natural sciences.
Bring your tools and spend a couple of hours gardening on a Saturday. It’s
a great way to meet other parents and help to prepare the Forest View Outdoor
Learning Environment. This event is held on a Saturday in the Fall and
again in the Spring. Check the calendar and your newsletter for times and
dates.
FVTV Crazy about Science
Volunteer to be interviewed by the FVTV News Crew for a special segment,
Crazy about Science. Parents and community members who are scientists in
the community share their interests with students in an informal 2-5 minute
interview live on the school's in-house morning new program. To volunteer,
contact Linda Tugurian, Technology Facilitator, 560-3932.
Chaperone a field trip
Join your child on a fun learning adventure to the farm, the planetarium,
the beach, a Durham Bulls game or any number of trips. Look for sign up
sheets in your child's folder.
Help out at the Book Fair
We all know that reading is critical to your child’s education. And nothing
encourages reading like the feeling of owning your own book. Come help
the Media Center Staff sell books and encourage our young readers. Look
for sign up sheets in your child’s folder.
Prepare a covered dish or bake some cookies
There are many fun family gatherings throughout the year— open houses, game
nights, children’s concerts and more. Bring a potluck dish and get to know
other families, teachers and staff. Baking or buying something at the Bake
Sale is a delicious way to support special items like teacher appreciation
days. Look for sign up sheets in your child’s folder.
